When we built the world’s fastest MacBook Pro with a 2011 MacBook Pro we have been quite disappointed that SATA III was working the HDD Slot but not on the Superdrive port. Even though the System Profiler showed SATA III for both ports, we have not been able to get a SATA III SSD to work on the MacBook Pro’s second port. This was the case for the 15′ and the 17′ model. The 13′ MacBook had no problems with SATA III on either port.
So building a RAID System in the 2011 MacBook Pro was only possible with SATA II disks for the 15′ & 17′ model. Either SATA III disks weren’t recognized, could not be formatted or showed other errors. Even though the SATA standard is downwards compatible so SATA III disks are supposed to work an SATA II ports, which is true for i.e. 2010 MacBook Pro’s. So now we are happy to announce that our Kit will not only work in the 2012 models (of course with the exception of the Retina model, since it lacks a Superdrive) but also will work with SATA III SSDs. Happy racing!
Can I use the SATA ADAPTER KIT FOR MACBOOK (PRO) in the optical bay at 6g in the mid 2012 macbook pro 13`?
Hallo,
Kim
I have a macbook pro early late 2011 and i have had a SATA III SSD running and it ran with no issues for about a year. All the sudden during typing the system randomly shut down and since then it has no been able to read any SATA III device. Testing the device it functions normally.
The mac book pro’s not being able to read SATA III devices seems to be caused by a firmware update or maybe even the bootloader revision. any ideas?
It is really in fact a good plus handy part of information. I will be pleased you distributed this handy data here. Please stay us up to date similar to this. Thanks for discussing.
